Normal is a relative concept what is normal in one culture is abnormal in another, this is one of the those subjective problems.
The question is what is, the objective normality, based on all present and past model of human behavior.
And does our idea of normal fit that?

Great answers all of them ESP. Premaholic
What can I add?

If we take mad to mean insane and insane is the negative of sane and this in turn mean healthy!
Then the question becomes, is humanity suffering from a disease!
The hunter gatherers known as the San people (and many other names) are in harmony with the world around them and therefore at ease.
these people shown how man lived for tens of thousands of years before the development of society and all it pros and cons.
So in short based on your definition used in the question as far as I see it.
Humanity is walking around with a pair of boxers on it's head and a couple of penciles sticking out of it's nose while saying "Googli wooollbily or Bodoily wobily"

Humanity has always been mad and it's getting worse. I personally don't know anyone "normal" and it's very frustrating to see everyone running around putting others down for not being "normal" while they themselves are far from it. Personally, I think "normal" would be a slow miserable way to die.

It is not the case that humanity is going mad because ( to some degree) humanity has always been mad, is mad and will remain mad.

Get rid of the normal and abnormal and you will find the truth! Opposites are not as much opposed to each other, as they are interdependent upon each other. Opposites "are" complimentary! The task is to maintain the "Middle". Peace and Blessings........
