I have awesome health care insurance. Maybe that's because I waited to have kids, got a good education, and landed a job that realizes they have to be competetive with such benefits if they want to attract the best talent. I don't feel guilty for that, nor do I feel I somehow "owe" anybody who made different choices. Congressmen should get the best health care they can afford and are willing to pay for. And if I made my own country I would make it an actually competetive system. One where health insurance was INSURANCE, not a fund for every nick, scrape, and cough. Imagine if people had to pay out of pocket for routine care. We'd see prices PLUMMET because people would actually shop around. Doctors would have to be competetive again, instead of just charging a minor copay and billing the insurance an outrageous amount. The insurance would only kick in if you had a catastrophic event. This would be in the same manner as home owner's insurance, which doesn't pay you to go to Lowe's when a towel rack is loose. I'd also cut off the government subsidy of insurance premiums (those premiums are taken with BEFORE tax dollars). In short, I'd get the government out of health care and let the free market take over. Better service, lower prices.

By all means yes. I would also like to keep our money in our pockets and stop paying them when they leave office.

These people are shameless money & power hungry bafoons that have no clue what the American people truly need or want. Well, they do have a clue they could care less about us that's all. Hmmpphh

Well since most people have good health care already, 85% of americans have health insurance.

Congress has the same health insurance that every other federal employee has.

EDIT:

Congressmen already pay SS tax's just like everyone else does.

SS is not a retirement plan.

Every job I know of, has its own retirement plan, why shouldn't Congress have one also ?

I know of no one, who only has SS as thier retirement plan.

Yes, but it won't happen. Who else do you know can vote themselves a pay raise? Who else do you know that can spend money that isn't theirs? Also, why are they entitled to great retirement benefits when they only spend a couple of years in office? How many places do you know that would pay you a retirement for being there a couple of years? Notice I didn't say work, because most politicians don't understand "work". They live off the backs and sweat of others.

Well, consider their salary is somewhere in the range of $150K - $200K, they probably could afford better insurance. Also, if they were put on SSI, rather than pension, they'd just stow away all that special interest money in an IRA or 401k.

No, they should have to pay for something for a change. And every year when the premium is one day past due, they should get a heart attack. Then they should be denied for "pre-existing" condition. And just to put the icing on the cake, let their last heart attack get them taken to Kings County Emergency in Brooklyn like regular people.
