You are a good person toeven think of the plight of our senior citizens unlike the first two who have answered this question. These two have scant regard and respect for their elders.I wonder whether they even respect their parents
They probably consider themselves to be rebels. It is only when they get old and their children show total disrespect that good sense may begin to dawn but too late.
Reverting to your poser, despite separate counters for senior citizens no one displays any concern. On the contrary here in the US the
senior citizens are treated with due deference
and are made to feel special. We assimilate the worst things about the western culture giving all
the decent and good things the go by.And we have the gall to talk about our ancient and
glorious tradition,history,culture and what not.

I cannot figure out WHY some questions refer to older people as some kind of freaks. We can do the same things we did all our life, just a bit slower.
I have not seen any evidence of abuse or being treated differently. Believe me, most seniors do not take abuse of any kind from anyone. We all feel a part of society.
There must be a reason you refer to the places you do in your question. I think they could show us the respect we have earned by giving us free utilities & a check from the bank every month.

This facility is already sufficiently available in our society.
The only thing lacking is the creation of sufficient awareness and proper application of these privileges / facilities from the grass root level, ie., from villages, mandals, towns taluks and semi urban areas etc.,. so that they reach all the Sr. citizens in our society equally and uniformly. For eg., the facility of a separate Ques for senior citizens in various public business places is not as efficiently followed at the level of towns etc., as is being followed at the level of the cities. So this is one of the very important aspect that is to be fully and urgently taken care of….
2. Increasing the more number of privileges / preferences for the senior citizens for their day to day important works is another issue to be worked out, considered and kept in mind constantly.
3. Exercising constant vigilance on the misuse / abuse of all these privileges / concessions etc., given to the senior citizens is another Herculean task.
If these three steps are implemented efficiently we will be doing justice to our elders forever.
After all when once we realise that, an young man becomes a senior citizen one day or other and never the reverse in the life, every thing automatically goes well!

Treat seniors as humans. Not special but the same as every one else. Do not talk to the people they are with but directly to them. They are capable of understanding. Most seniors are looked at as invisible, when my Mom walks in the Mall people walk right on top of her but go around me. People will speak to me but ignore her, I don't understand that as she is more knowledgeable, and kinder, I'd love to have her patience.
They do need help with things as yard and house work and to offer a neighbor a hand is a nice thing to do. Mom has a neighbor who just puts out her trash can and puts it away for her without her asking and she is so appreciative.
So after all that I am saying treat them as humans with a little help now and then.

It is not only a problem of senior citizens. The New Consumer society has changed the lives of old and young people. Elderly people are not considered important because they are not able to produce and consume much. I agree with you: a society like this is not civilized.

Our Senior Citizens are seen by most young people as an easy target for abuse and ridicule. They should be treated with respect, courtesy and consideration by everyone, and if they are seen to require help then it should be offered freely and willingly. Many of the older generation are on their own having lost their spouses and it would not be unreasonable to reach out to them and offer companionship and friendship. The youngsters of today forget they will be old one day and I hope and pray they get treated with the same 'respect' they show to the older generation of today!

I would suggest that people be courteous to everyone regardless of age. I guess this is a blanket suggestion...
And YES, respect your elders!
Just a note... I'm no longer sure our society is very civilized. I seem to be seeing a nation of predators. Watching the news is very scary!
The golden rule applies to all human beings on planet earth.

The senior citizens are the ones who took care of young ones and worked hard to make the world worthy of living by us!
We owe them a big debt of gratitude.
They did all to keep us happy wnen we were too small andweak.
To day they ar too old , weak and too considerate of others.
So we must respect them and do our best to make their life
easy and pleasant!

garg0505, I am 62 and luckily have never been mistreated by way of Government or officialdom. I do think, however, that older people who served during the wars should be much better looked after than some of them are. If it weren't for them we might not even be here now!
