there are a totoal of 16 days of class (exluding veterns day...I don't know if that still counts.
I've been absnt 3 times
in the college handbook, it reads.

of course I will avoid future absences and I will talk to him,
the reason for my third absence was due to having to pick up my 10 year old sister from the airport. Both my parents can't aford to miss work, and I never.
like to be absent more than twice
I didn't have a choice for the 3rd absence.

strictly going by the math and stated conditions-
16 classes in a 9 week period:
16 / 9 = 1.778 classes/week on average
because of scheduling, an average is needed
3 hours per class gives:
1.778 classes/week x 3 hrs/class = 5.333 hrs/week
twice the number of class hours per week:
2 x 5.333 hrs/week = 10.666 hrs
plus one more hour
(1 + 10.666) = 11.7 hours
to be in excess of 11.7 hours is to be "excessively absent"
If 3 classes are "recorded" as absent:
3 hrs/class x 3 classes = 9 hrs
9 < 11.7 so I would agree that you are NOT "excessively absent"
To be excessively absent, you would have to miss 4 classes, 12 hours, which would put you over.
If you took off on Veterans Day and it was not a recognized holiday, then you have a situation of being absent 4 days and this would cause you to be "excessively absent".
Now, let's look at it as a legitimate 2.5 hours/class:
1.778 classes/week on average
2.5 hours per class gives:
1.778 classes/week x 2.5 hrs/class = 4.44 hrs/week
twice the number of class hours per week:
2 x 4.44 hrs/week = 8.88 hrs
plus one more hour
(1 + 8.88) = 9.88 hours
to be in excess of 9.88 hours is to be "excessively absent"
If 3 classes are "recorded" as absent:
3 hrs/class x 3 classes = 9 hrs
9 < 9.88 so I would agree that you are NOT "excessively absent" again; however
if you were tardy for more than 1 hour (54 minutes actually and cumulative counts and that hurts), then you have an "excessively absent" condition.
This is regardless of the Veterans Day qualifier, which may also be an issue.
If the 10:30 release time is recognized by the faculty/administration ... professor is actually recorded as having 4.44 hrs/wk instead of scheduled 5.33 hrs/wk.... then it is a harsher time constraint on absences.
In either scenario, if Veterans Day was not a recognized holiday (class was still scheduled) and you have 3 days absence on top of that, you have an issue. Score an "A" and don't miss any more classes.

That sounds like the class meets twice a week for two hours so that is 4 hours a week. So that would be 8 hours plus 1 hour makes it 9 hours. if you have misses three classes you are have missed 6 hours. However, you should be an adult and go to class every time. It always costs some money for you education and you should honor that contribution by showing up. As a student your only job is to be in class and be ready.
BTW even if the class meets 2 times a week for 1.5 hours that gives you 7 hours that you could miss. With 3 classes misses you have missed 4.5 hours and still should be alright.
Of course I am a college professor so you might not take my advise.
Good Luck

Let's assume the worst case scenario.
The 3 times you've been absent count as 3 hrs. missed
per time.
That means you've missed 9 hrs.
There are 16 days of class, each 21/2 hrs.
That means there are 16 X 21/2=40 hours of class.
It's a 9-week session.
Therefore, hrs. per week= 40/9 = 4.44 hrs per week.
"One more than twice the number of hours per week"
is 4.44 X 2 +1, =9.88 hours.
You are NOT excessively absent.
IF the teacher says each class is 3 hours,
16 X 3=48, and 48/9= 5.33 hrs. per week
5.33 X 2 +1=11.66 hours.
Under this condition, you are very safe.
If you miss any more classes, yell loudly that it says
the course is 8-11, which is 3 hours, and by God
you want the calculation based on that.
Good luck!

you have 3 class hours per week ( 8-11 )
twice plus one is 7 hours
so if you are absent for 7 hours during the 9 week session you are excessively absent.
since you missed 3 times = 3 * 3 hours = 9 hours you are excessively absent.
i am not counting the 30 minutes the teacher let you go. If i do that then you are since then you shoud add 6 * 30 minutes = 3 hours to the 7 hours thus 1 hour too much.

How many class sessions are there per week? You've missed 9 hours out of 48 hours or 18% of the total class time. That's not what I would consider excessively absent. However, it is really up to your professor to make that determination.

The only thing I noticed that no one mentioned, is why?
We are so quick to judge, and bark out orders but do we stop and ask the important question?
The reason why you have been absent could also effect the outcome. If the reason was pointless, then you should drop the class, apologize to the teacher, and take it again in the spring. If the excuse was reasonable, then work out an arrangement with your teacher to meet, and possibly go over, on your time! He, or she is getting paid to teach you, and if you are needing help in some area, that is what they are there for. Check the office hours, and go in and talk to your teacher. Their good listeners. Well most of them.

If you were absent 3 out of 16 days that's about 19% of the time you're not there... For a job that would be excessive absence so for school it would probably be considered excessive as well.

Excessively absent at a minimum:
= (9 hours per week * 2 weeks) + 1 hour
= 18 hours + 1 hour
= 19 hours
Your absences in hours:
= 3 times * 3 hours
= 9 hours
Answer: You are not yet excessively absent. You need to absent 10 more hours in order to be considered excessively absent.

8-11am means each class is 3 hours.
There are 3*16=48 class hours in the session.
There are 48/9 = 5.33 class hrs/wk.
You are excessively absent when you miss 2*5.33 + 1 = 11.67 hours.
You missed 3*3=9 class hours.
You're good. But 1 more missed class makes you excessively absent (12 hrs).

yes - your sessions are for 3 hours at least theoretically. you have missed 3 sessions, which makes 9 hours. twice number of class hours + 1 = 2*3 + 1 = 7, and 9 > 7, so theoretically you are excessively absent. I wouldnt worry too much though, most of the time they do not enforce these kind of rules, unless you arent complying e.g. not submitting work etc.
