Fear of ridicule.. fear that what they have to say will interest no one.. low self esteem just 3 I can think of right at the moment.

I would assume it's because people fear that they are being judged. About what they are saying, the way they're saying it (intonation, stage presence). A lot of this is probably derived from the fact that we ourselves criticize others when they public speak so it's natural to assume others will do the same to us.

Fear of failure in front of everyone and being judged. But really people don't care, they are just thinking about their own lives.

I think it's good to have some fear. If you don't then you will be too confident. Like you can do no wrong and then others will see that. So it's good to be afraid. It shows humility. Have a humble heart and others will respect you.
