I was reading on yahoo about the real and fake X-mas trees. It was saying that you cannot leave a real tree up more than a couple of days. HA I think that this is halarious, Every year my family and I travel up to the mountains here in north carolina to go to our usual christmas tree farm, and every year we cut our own x-mas tree from the side of a mtn (or the top). This is always tradition and every year our tree stays up over a month it has been known to stay up 2 months and it will still be as green and fresh as the day we bought it. The needles will still be intact and the smell still wofting through the house. My question for yall is how long have you had your real tree up for and it still look and feel as healthy as the day you cut it. Pre cut trees do not apply unless you know 100% that they were cut that day just a few hours before. (I know some farms that cut trees for a small selection so some people do not have to climb the mtn to find the perfect tree) HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!

For those of you who keep saying fake, does it look like I asked you what kind of tree you put up. NO i asked those people who put real trees up how long they have kept theres up before. I dont care about fake trees THERE FAKE and to me they are not no where near as beautiful and we all know they stink like plastic (which they are made of pvc ya know and that stuff is really difficult to recycle for all you recycle people that think cutting trees is bad) anyway real tree people how long have you left your real tree up before?

I leave my tree up from Dec l5-Jan 1, and I do buy a pre-cut tree, but with proper treatment, it stays pretty fresh for at least 10 days before it starts to dry out. I have cut my own in the past but around here (SW Missouri Ozarks) that means scotch or austrian pines, or junipers, and they are MEAN! Their sharp little razor blade needles leave me with cuts and scratches when I try to decorate it, and when I take it down, it is even worse. I prefer a noble fir or fraiser fir, they are nice to me. Douglas fir is too soft, the branches droop when you hang anything on them and by Christmas they havedrooped so much that they are dumping your ornaments on the floor! I have never used an artificial tree, they are ecologically a waste, and my real tree is useful through out its whole life and death.

first off how do you have the same name as me and second we have kept our tree up around 2 months before too. And for the guy who is talking about "why cut down a real tree DUH THEY ARE GROWN JUST FOR CHRISTMAS ITS NOT LIKE THEY DONT HAVE A WHOLE OTHER MTN OF TREES FOR YOU TO LOOK AT AND INSTEAD OF THROWING IT AWAY MY NEIGHBORHOOD GETS TOGETHER AND WE HAVE A BOND FIRE OR THEY GIVE THERE TREES AWAY TO PEOPLE WHO BURN THEM, I can understand those who are allergic to real ones must buy a fake one but fake trees are awful but that is my own personal opinion. At least the new pre light ones are. They suck! I think familys should do the whole tree cutting thing. Its something that children love and the whole entire family can go and have such a great time. Why use the excuse its just easier and less of a hassel. This is part of what the holiday is all about, guess nowadays though its all about the comercialization and what tv influences into doing. I think people have really lost what this holiday is about. Everyone wants wants wants and no body wants to give. It has been turned into a sale holiday and not about family and friends and realizing that the greatest gift is what we already have such as life and freedome. I dont ask for anything just that I can spend time with my lovedones.

Our family in NY state use to cut your tree on Thanksgiving - we always got a Balsam Fir as they last longer than many Pines. It would be kept outside in the cool/cold temperatures until the 3rd Sunday in Advent (1-2 weeks before Christmas) and then put up - it would be up until New Years and taken down to be burned at the 12th night ceremony in town.
I now have an artifical tree that goes up in early Advent (read shortly after Thanksgiving) and is taken down just before Palm Sunday. - I really like the look of Twinkle lights on a tree whn I'm home in the evening during the winter. My porch lights will be on auto on and off for about the same time frame.

I would say fake... its must easier to maintain... meaning that it isn't messy, and you are going to able to re use it next year... that way you save trees and money$$$
