Things like this certainly aren't the acts of Conservatives. It is only Liberals who think such things are acceptable.

Are you still proud to be a Liberal?

Well, I am a Vietnam era vet who was a USAF flyboy and who ended his service as a squadron commander, and I have certainly seen this kind of disrespect for vets before.

If on a scale of liberalism and conservatism, with the midpoint being neither, then as in the past, this sort of thing has to be a characteristic of liberalism. Extremist? Yes, not mainstream liberalism, but still undeniably a characteristic of liberalism.

Another characteristic of liberalism, as can already be seen here, is to denegrate the messenger and call him unflatering names. Never mind that there is truth in the message. Don't agree that it was a disgusting act and leave it was that. Attack the messenger for reporting it. Don't examine the philosophy that makes such acts possible. Ignore it and maybe you won't have to examine where your beliefs came from.

Liberals seem less likely to criticize their own party.

But when you listen to "conservative" talk radio you will hear Rush and Hannity talk down republicans all the time when they feel they are doing something wrong... including Bush.

A great example is when liberals circled the wagons during the Lewinski scandal. But when Larry Craig had his little bathroom incident... republicans dropped him like a rock.

Why would you assume that it was "Liberals" who committed this act of vandalism? If I had to make an educated guess based on the information in this article, my guess would be that some drunken right wing wackos saw these flags as an anti-war protest and went on a mindless rampage of destruction.

At least I have the sense to know that the scenario I desribe is merely a guess, not a fact. Maybe I can mail order away for some of that Right Wing Ego -- it must be pleasant (crazy, but pleasant) to have the delusion that you know everything and are right all the time. For instance to have total, unwavering belief in unwarrented assumptions such as "It is only Liberals who think such things are acceptable."

Can someone give me the technical name of this personality disorder? All the words I know for it would be censored out by Yahoo.

Dear Conservative,

Are you proud of your fellow conseratives? This certainly isn't the act of "liberals." It's only Conservatives who think God is condemning America.

Are you still proud to be a conservative?

So on your additional info, you continue with your generalizations. You give a little bit of explanation of "degrees of liberalism" but of course, everything to the left of atilla the hun is considered "liberal."

Who in the world thinks such vandalism is acceptable? Why do you paint everyone one left of atilla the hun with such a wide brush and say that we're all a part of this nut case group that did such a stupid act?

Of course this act was absolutely ridiculous. Democrats don't oppose the troops. We certainly oppose the policy makers who put them in this mess. The troops need to come home as soon as possible and not fight Halliburton's war.

The "philosophy that makes such acts possible" is the extremist rantings of an extreme few. Again, the "philosophy that makes such acts possible" can be used to put the right wing and Westboro Church in the same grouping. They believe America needs to "repent and get right with God," so they protest funerals. The religious right believes along those same lines, so they must be part of the group that protests at funerals, right?

The Liberal ideology is a theory which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality.
They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class.
The problems we face today are because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.
A democracy will continue to exist up until
the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous
gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority
always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from
the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally
collapse over loose fiscal policy

From the article you linked to:

"Almost as soon as Ann and Don Bender marked the 4th of July by planting a field of more than 3,500 flags — one for each of the American troops killed in Iraq..."

"Ann, 51, and Don, 49, oppose the war. But their memorial was open to all sorts of interpretations, as is evident from the stack of thank you notes that the Benders have collected."

The people who put up the memorial OPPOSE the WAR!

If you expect the vandals to oppose the war, did you expect the authors of the memorial to oppose it as well?

Yes, I'm proud that liberals can honor the war-dead, as Ann and Don did... but still oppose the war. I'm proud of that.

Or, perhaps Ann and Don are Republicans who oppose the war... and if that's the case, I hope that Republicans would be proud of them, along with the rest of us. They should be.

I read the article twice and saw nothing that claimed this vandalism was the work of liberals. It seems to me that your only objective here is to spew forth typical Limbaugh-like hatred, bias and political bigotry toward those who oppose your personal dogma.
I would much rather be "proud to be a liberal" than ashamed to be a lilly-livered coward whose blackened heart can only resort to juvenile jabs, childish insults, unfounded accusations, or hate-filled indictments as a means of attacking those with whom he disagrees politically.
You might want to remember: this is a free country, which affords its citizens freedoms of choice. As much as Limbaugh and his ditto heads would prefer to follow Hitler's lead and spit out one-sided propaganda, we are a nation of people from different viewpoints, various sexual persuasions, unique cultures, and countless religious beliefs. This melting pot of ideas and discourse is what makes America great.
Finally, I wonder if you - and other so-called 'liberals' or 'conservatives' - even understand the true definitions of these artificial labels you attach to yourselves. -RKO- 11/28/07

I'm a liberal and yes I am proud to call myself that. However that does not mean that I approve of what those people did.

Don't assume that because I share a label with some people that I'm exactly like them.

As a conservative I bet you don't agree with these disruptions of military funerals?
