In our building they prohibited natural trees this year as it is a fire hasard. I want to build the case for keeping them as my children are heart broken and I believe (without supporting data) that there are many other problems to focus on besides trees (especially if the tree is watered properly). Any links, articles, statistics would be appreciated.

Finally - is there any difference between real and artificial trees when it comes to flamability... I would think that the plastics in the artificial trees would be flamable also.

That is so heartbreaking. How do your landlords sleep at night. That would seriously **** me off.

I briefly skimmed it. I think if your building prohibited real trees, you should invest in a fake one. Lowe's had them on sale right now for $79. And no, they do not cause fires.. you can put them up anytime and take them down anytime and you won't have to worry about them getting fried. I hope your children don't have to go without a tree, best wishes and happy holidays.

I don't have the statistics on fires but do inow that many building codes prohibit cut live trees in areas of public assembly. Your Landlord therefore is on solid ground.
I prefer my artifical tree - the investment lasts for many years - it is non alergenic (fresh trees often have unseen but breathed molds in the dying branches) and I know that it is one less tree being cut down this year.
