Ok mainly I'm looking for a solution to my room. I live in an apartment in spokane, WA and lately it has been averaging about 20 F. My room is freezing cold every day, but it is just because the apartments have these crappy thin windows in the rooms and all the heat escapes through there.
Yes we have heaters but the cost is ridiculous.
I'm just wondering what would be best to put over my windows to keep heat in. I have some old pillows and blankets that I could put over, but was looking for an idea that might work a little better.
This window looks out into our common area, so I really don't care about ever looking through it. Although I can't make any major constructive changes, since it is an apartment.

You can buy this plastic film at the hardware store that you put over the windows to keep the draft out.

If you watch this video, you can see the (former) Prime Minister of Canada fixing his windows with this stuff.

A window insulator kit will help keep the heat in this winter.. Also, if you can hang some curtains over the window that will help kee the heat in as well....

In our old house we rented our windows were very leaky.. We ended up putting plastic sheeting on the outside and that helped a lot ! Provided you can acess the outside of the buiding.. If you can't putting up heavy curtains and keeping them closed will keep the heat in... A heavy blanket will also do in a pinch..

You can also buy gap sealer in a can that can be removed in the spring... Also, get a space heater... Good luck

If you're the crafty type, you could hang a mini-quilt over the window instead of curtains. We don't have that degree of cold, but we do use one of those freestanding electric heaters that is filled with oil. Sorry, do not remember the brand but I think it came from Walmart or Target, on low it heats the entire back of our place very nicely, and is much more energy efficient than our old baseboard electric.

buy a little styrofoam insulation, cut it about the same size as the window, and wedge it in. i would cit it a hair too big at first, then keep shaving a bit off to ensure a tight fit. this might cost only a few bucks. then go to target and buy a $30 space heater for your room.
