Can you get a hair relaxer while pregnant. I just found out a week ago I am pregnant. If I can do it now could I do it later on or I just can't do it at all?

This is a tough subject. Personally, I'd wait until after your 12 weeks. Then go for it. However, be prepared. I've been relaxing my hair periodically since 12 weeks and it doesn't take as well as it would before being pregnant. The hormones and vitamins do funny things to our hair. I don't know what strength you use now, but I wouldn't go any higher than a Regular. Try it once and see how it works for you. Good luck

From what I understand they're not really sure either way if things like hair relaxers, hair dyes, etc can harm a baby when pregnant. My feeling was if they don't know whether or not I'm harming my baby, why take the risk just to do something to my hair? I just waited until I had my daughter to do anything that involved chemicals like that.

Its better to wait until after 12 weeks.

I dont like the chemicals in relaxers. I'd use one without amonia, and wait until after 12 weeks.

You are not suppose to have any hair treatment during your first trimester because this is the critical time for your baby. Congenital abnormalities often happen at this stage that's why doctors advise women to be extra cautious. You are gonna be exposing your baby to chemicals so I suggest you wait until after your third month.

When pregnant you are not supposed to become subject to any foreign toxins, which includes the amonia found in perms and relaxers.

the chemicals can be too strong. I dont recommend it....instead why dont you ask a salon what you could do throughout your pregnancy to naturally relax your hair.
