Advanced Windows Care V2 Personal, this not only cleans the rgistry but does loads more too, it also lists everything that is running from start up and gives a link to a site where you can check just what it is and why it is running, and it's FREE, (my fav 4 letter word) take care with some registry cleaners, they often remove things that you don't want removed, also many of them can't restore what they remove so before you use anything to scan the registry make sure that you can restore or repair from that programme, i have been using Advanced Windows Care for over a year with absolutely no problems, give it a try. take care and good luck.

Like the others have said, CCleaner is awesome because it's also a temporary file cleaner. I use it everyday before I log off my computer.

I also use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. It will clean out redundant and expired registry entries. There is also another program called Total Uninstaller that is used to properly uninstall a program because it also removes every registry entry as well as DLL files left behind.

All of these are free :)

I've had great success with Registry Mechanic. I've used it for years. It's very thorough, the scans are relatively quick, the repairs are almost instantaneous, and it's extremely easy to use. It's $30 and worth it, in my opinion.

A good, basic free registry cleaner is CCleaner. It's not as thorough as Registry Mechanic but it's better than not using one at all.

CCleaner is good. It is also able to clean out old temp files, history, cookies, and other junk.
I also like "Advanced WindowsCare Personal V2" - it found a few really old registry keys that CCleaner had missed.

Make sure you always backup your registry before running a registry cleaner. I would also suggest setting a system restore point.

Here a site that gives a pretty good comparison. However, the best registry cleaner depends on your computer's architecture. So, best thing is to take the free scans and see which one is able to do the most work for you.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

I took Captain 3`s answer fom a question previously put on here. The same as he gives here. I couldnt believe the results. It cleared with safety approx 850 mb of rubbish. and that was after using CCleaner. I dont know about being the best, but for me it was magic.

One of the best and indeed the safest is TuneUp Utils: You can download a fully working trial version from:
http://www.tune-up.com/

Not only does it have a registry cleaner but many other tune-up utilities.
