I guess you have never removed a North-star motor before. The entire sub frame has to come down. And get ready for the big hit it will also need new motor mounts radiator and other parts that just wear out. Just did my 1999 Eldorado's 2 months ago, good luck. Some independent shops might be able to do it but the dealer is the best choice should anything they see needs to be replaced while there in doing the work. I did it because I am cheep. But afterward I will never do that job again. Way to dirty and difficult It took all Saturday with an automotive lift and all my patience.

My understanding is to get to this, the whole front end of the car has to come apart...front suspension, engine, transmission...everything! At that point, they can then repair the oil leak.

It's a huge job, not sure if 14 hours is correct, but it is very time consuming.

I can believe it, the front cross member runs under the oil pan so you probably have to lift the engine.

it takes a while to even get to the area so while 14 hours seem ridiculous; they probably need to take small breaks. in any case i think it would take at least 8 hours.

there probably right as the engine will probably have to be lifted to do the job, call around to other garages to be sure.
