"Normal is that quality which no one quite is".

This is a quote I heard a long time ago and I can't remember who said it, but it is empirically as well as philosophically valid. Normalcy is a baseline comparison of the characteristics of a given group. In that regard, no one can be normal.

I think that the idea of normalcy is one that people adopt in order to create a sense of belonging to a group, or to society in general. Outcasts in society are often differentiated because of a perceived abnormal attribute or behavior. So I think that when people say that they are normal, what they are really saying is that they are worthy of belonging.

Am I normal? Not hardly.

"Normal" is what is commonly acceptable behaviour. For example, most people do not kidnap a girl, rape and kill her then cut her in pieces. That is considered 'Abnormal'. Another example, most people will say that it is a good behaviour to show respect, offer assistance, and do your best in life to serve others with your experience/s. This is considered 'Normal'.
Our society takes the word to varied levels and labels people 'abnormal' who are actually 'normal'. Alot of psychologists will say that one who believes in God or a Realm higher than the material one is 'schizophrenic' or 'abnormal' yet the individual could be faithful to his partner and always available to help others. On the other hand, an exotic dancer, a prostitute or a drug abuser could be viewed as 'normal'--- as people just living out their personalities, even though alot of this activity is carried out in dimly lit places.
Commonly acceptable behaviour that produces a respectful people and society is generally called 'normal' behaviour. It is based on outer actions and not on the mental state.

ashish c says "PHYSICALY AND MENTALY SOUND"
but from whose point of view
GEEGEE says "Normal, meaning average, and not odd or extreme"
Trina says it means "are you a conformist?
Gee says ""Normal is that quality which no one quite is".
and so on all good answers as are the rest

But Normal is a relative concept what is normal in one culture is abnormal in another, this is one of the those subjective problems.
The question is what is, the objective normality, based on all present and past model of human behavior.
And does our idea of normal fit that?

In other word is humanity going Mad!

I put that as a question!

To me, normal means: average, mediocre, boring.
Being normal means there is nothing special, extraordinary or interesting about you. I tell people I'm not normal and I don't strive for normalcy. I believe I am better than normal and I deserve a better than normal life.
People only want to be normal because they don't realize what it really means to be normal.

Normal, meaning average, and not odd or extreme. Unless of course you're talking about looks- many people consider themselves to be above average in that regard, lol. People want to be "normal" and not considered freakish or mental cases. Maybe they are insecure?

I take it to mean "are you a conformist?"

I would have to say I am not normal. I am far removed from the norm in many ways.

They fit in with the majority of people they know.

They have no obvious and glaring differences from others.

We are all unique but within certain parameters.
