You know that if the government were ever foolish enough to get into the healthcare business the same people, the very same people, who are saying we just want healthcare would be screaming for dental coverage to be provided. Then eyeglasses and then all the rest!

Paying a phone bill or insuring a car are NOT the same as being assured that when you are in need of a life saving surgery, medical care, pre-natal care, medical care for you children, or regular check-ups they will be available no matter where you are in life. (whether you have lots of money, enough only to scrape by or not enough to eat everyday)

What I find interesting is the fact that if the polls ask, "Do you want free health care." the public responses with a resounding 'Yes!'. Heck, who wouldn't? And that's just what those who do not pay taxes would get. But if you ask the question, "Would you be willing to pay for government provided health care?" the answer is a resounding 'No!'. Those who support 'universal health care' want FREE health care. They want health care provided to them for free, paid for by tax payers like me. You tell them that they'll have to contribute even a small fee for their health care and they reject the idea overwhelmingly.
And they call me greedy. They'd rather die than contribute anything to their well being.

How about:
Government assisted fire department.
Government assisted military.
Government assisted police department.
Government assisted fire department.
Oh, wait. We have those. AND THEY WORK GREAT!!!!!
How about this: No one in our country should die because of their bank account. HMOs are designed to DENY care, not provide it.
Are we a country that accepts human suffering as long as the profit is there? How evil is that?

Right now government assists the Health system anyway. The insurance companies take 23% profits!!! that's absurd, when most businesses run on single digit profits at best. 23% is the average in that so called free-business world. That's not free, but corrupt monopolies.

Are you really that stupid? Not being able to pay a phone bill is NOT the same as not being able to afford medication that will save the life you your CHILD. Grow up and get a brain (a loooooonngg trip to see the Wizard would be a start).

with the eception of suicide of course.., the others you mentioned are already available..... if you work for the government. The federal government is the nations largest employer and has the best benefits packages.
So if you work for the government, then I pay for your benefits too.... so if i'm paying for yours, why can't I afford to pay for mine ?

I'm all for it and while your at it, throw in some government assistant sports leagues.
I am tired of the Patriots kicking every other teams BUTT. I want the NFL to be more even keel. If the government was in control, the Patriots would be forced to trade Tom Brady to the Dolphins!!!! yea, that's the ticket.

You misunderstand what some liberals want. What we want is for insurance companies and drug companies to be regulated so they are not raping the general public.
And health care shouldn't be a for profit thing. No one should have to choose between paying for food and paying for health care.
