I started smoking when I was a kid and I asked a lot of people to buy cigarettes for me. Most of them did and I was grateful. Now, I'm 40 something..and I've finally quit smoking. It took me 30 plus years to stop.
Now, my grown kids use tobacco and I think that because I smoked, I'm to blame. I tried to be their friend and I should have been their parent. I should have set the example.
I'm old enough now to see friends my age with cancer and smoking related health issues and I finally realize how horrible the whole thing really is. It breaks my heart.
I wish now that people would have told me NO. I wish I would have not ever smoked. I wish my kids didn't smoke. I wish I had told THEM no. In Texas, the fine for buying for minors is pretty steep and minors caught buying lose their driver's license. Pretty harsh..but man, so is lung cancer.
I'm not freaked out so much by the "legal" issue of buying for a minor. It's the bigger picture. The one where they end up on oxygen with a lung disease or cancer and I get to put my name on the list of people responsible.
No way would I buy for a minor today. I wouldn't buy for anyone. I'm glad to be alive, I have my health and my lungs are healing. I'm not preaching at you, I just wish I'd of done it different.

And since prostitution is legal in Nevada, do you think it would be OK to hire a hooker in NY? I can't even imagine that was really your thinking at the time, you just figured, "Hey, I'll be the cool adult and get this kid some smokes," but now you want to try to justify what you know was an illegal act. Of course you shouldn't have done it. There's no way to justify it, especially since you knew it was illegal.
And you should quit, too.

I'm a smoker and I understand the need for a cigarette, but if the child wasn't old enough to go in and purchase them himself you shouldn't have done it for him. You were breaking the law, luckily you didn't get caught.

do you live in Virginia?
you are implying that Virginia has a younger age because that increases profits for the state. or are you implying that new york makes a profit off of the older age? just what are you smokin'?

I would have done it years ago. I wouldn't now because the cops set up sting operations using underage kids. Guess there is so little crime these days they need to do that stuff to keep busy.

I think it was wrong, not because it broke the law. (although that does make it illegal) It was wrong because you are contributing to harming his health. I would not purchase cigarettes for anyone.

I guess we have all done it but you better not get caught because you will be in real trouble. It's against the law. I do agree with your statements but the police don't agree with us.
