I am considering purchasing an HP dv2500t laptop. The laptop will be used by both myself and my girlfriend. One of the options for the laptop is a fingerprint reader.

Will this fingerprint reader be useful if both of us are using it? Can it read two seperate fingers to login/access programs?

yes - that's the idea behind it. Instead of clicking your username and entering the password it selects the user by reading the fingerprint - provided that different user profiles exist.
I don't know if you can access a single user profile with two different fingerprints.
If you buy it in a shop ask there.
