Personally?
Health care is more important to me, that's why I make sure that I have good health care insurance for me and my family. That's my choice and my priority.
As for highways, I'd prefer to have a great public transportation system. I'd rather take a train, and sleep, read or work, than fighting traffic. But I have no choice in that matter. It's forced on me.
As for privatization, while your tone suggests you dislike it in ALL cases, the fact is that government does only a few things well, and most things horribly.
Defend, if you care to, the government's capability with respect to the Minnesota bridge collapse and the failed levee system in New Orleans.
Do you think that a private company, who would be bankrupted and possibly face criminal charges, would let things go to that extent? Do you think the insurance company for that private company would let things get that bad, considering the high liabilities they'd face?
Do you really think an ensconced bureaucracy facing no liabilites, facing no prosecurtion or penalties for failure is going to do better? If you do believe that, then your understanding of human nature is woefully inadequate.

That would be a fine idea. Private enterprise is far more efficient than any Government bureaucracy. Governor Corzine in New Jersey (a Democrat) has been floating the idea of selling off our toll roads to private interests for years now. The only question is what to do with all the political cronies that work for the Turnpike Authority.

Lets go back to the days of toll bridges .
We did have them and we also had toll ferries .
No one else was allowed to compete with these robbers .
It was only the government with its armies that eventually ended this practice as they disregarded the tolls .
Some complained and the government passed regulations on the toll roads eventually driving private enterprise out and taking over the roadways of America .

The only good argument I've heard for it is that it will make our manufactured products more competitive with the rest of the world. Now, our companies have to add a large percentage to their cost to cover the health benefits. If those costs were transferred to the public at large (like our competitors do), then the price of American made goods would drop.

portions of the road system are privitized ... and they seem to be doing just fine, thank you.
***
the private enterprise highways, for example, tend to charge realistic tolls on truckers, which the weight taxes of the various states do not. [Large trucks cause 80% of the wear and damage to our highways but pay only 40% of the highway taxes -- a sop to the Teamsters Union and its political clout.]

You obviously need to use your insurance card and pay a visit to the doctor if you think the health care system is doing just fine.

I would say highways, people like to say our healthcare system is messed up but it is the best in the world. People can not be denied medical treatment that is illegal, what everyone who screams for universal healthcare wants is to not have to be responsible enough to pay for it, now as for our roads what good does a hospital do if you can't get to it

Relative to cost (national budget)?
Highways $1
National Health Care: $100,000,000,000,000
Relative to the constitution?
Highways - Federal government is supposed to be involved in interstate commerce
Health Care - Federal Govt has no business here... "all other matters should be relegated to the states or the individual"
Relative to your quality of life
Highways - Necessary to do business in today's world.
Health Care - Socialized medicine sucks, you think the HMO system is bad, wait until govt beuracrats run it.
