The best test cricket captain was Bradman and stats dont lie.
At his time, he had good support as well.
Same goes with Clive Llyod. He also shared great support from
his team, with Viv Rich, Kalli, Roy, Greenidge et al and add to it the bowling(pace) and spin(Gibbs).
Mike Bearly of England was a shrewed captain, so was
Pataudi Jr. for India.

I think the best ever captain the country ever had was none other than the legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar.Though defensive in nature,Sunny always utilised his limited bowling attacks in a best possible manner. The batting revolved around him and the other master batsman of the time G. R. Vishwanath. They jointly and individually, set many a records for India.

For me, a good captain is one who manages his resources very well. We sometimes get carried away and say that Ponting, S Waugh, Border were some of the best captains. But make no mistake, they had a very good talented team to back it up.
So, a good captain is one who has successfully managed and extracted the maximum results from his given limited number of resources. There were two such captains. And, I would give that to
Stephen Fleming (NZ)
Nasser Hussain (Eng)

Rahul dravid should be the best ever test captain to my views because he is the only man who can survive to any conditions whether it is aussies to that extreme and bangla to this extreme.
