Hi all,
I purchased a house over the summer and the only note the home inspector made was that there were no gutters installed on the eaves.
I want to get some quotes for it before heavy snowfall starts but I'm not sure what to answer if they ask whether I want PVC or metal (is it steel?) gutters.
I was hoping someone could give me a quick snapshot of the pros/cons of each type.
Thanks!

Pvc gutters get the job done, but the biggest thing that you brought up is the snow. Once pvc gets cold it gets brittle. You won't be able to put a ladder up agianst it for fear of it breaking. I would stick with metal gutters. They may cost more upfront, but in the longrun they are cheaper.

Metal gutters can be made and installed with no seams in the middle of a run. They do not degrade over the years. They are stronger. The PVC gutters I have seen are in 10 foot lengths so you have many seams that seperate and leak. If not properly supported, they sag. They also "look" cheap.

Agree with Sensible, I have the seamless aluminum gutters and work great. PVC will have seams and are notorious for leaking.

Pros: none that come to mind. Cons: If pvc was damaged, may not be able to match same profile; definitely will cost more; doesn't look as nice as alum.

metal is best more $$,PVC is OK if you don't touch it ie it dry rots and is as brittle as glass in time.
