Can someone explain "power" chords to me, on the guitar?

I can do bar chords, and I can figure out almost anything, but I hate it when a song has power chords, cause I don't know how to do them.

Power chords are basically 2 note chords consisting of the 1st and 5th notes of the major scale played on any 2 adjacent strings. eg: G power chord.on 6th and 5th strings (only) !st finger 3rd fret 6th string. 3rd finger 5th fret 5th string. A is the same 2 frets up. hope this helps
