Are these people well-intentioned but deluded and ignorant?

Or, are they just traitors to their country who spit on the constitution (which, according to Dubya is "just a piece of paper")?

What is wrong with kidnapping and torture, in the right context?
These are just tools, like a hammer, a computer, or a nuke. And like all tools, they have a purpose. A hammer is not a fly swatter. A hammer can be used for it's purpose (building things) or it can be used to commit murder. The hammer is not at issue, the person using it is.
We don't use nukes in every war. They have a specific purpose and use. Likewise, we don't use torture all the time. But there are some specific rare occasions when torture is the right tool for the job.
Don't condemn the tool, condemn the person that abuses it.

I think many who condone the "waterboarding", are deluded to the fact that it is only being done on "terrorists". The truth is, they are not terrorists, they are "persons of interest"....or "suspects". There is a difference. Essentially we are running the risk of torturing innocent people among the guilty, with no guarantee that any of the information is going to be useful or accurate.

Example....
The Catholic church tortured hundreds of thousands of men women and children throughout the course of history...... They had a 99% conviction rate, because pretty much everyone they tortured confessed eventually. They confessed to being demonic, satanic, heretics, thiefs, wizards, warlocks, witches, murderers, and some even confessing to being the devil himself... in human form.

Guilty before proven innocent is not the way it is done in this country.....which is why Bush is holding people offshore. This way we can treat the accused as if they are guilty, and they have no rights at all. Also, this isn't just limited to foreign "enemy combatants" or foreign suspects..... American citizens can be subject to the same treatment, without cause, without evidence, without even being charged with a crime..., and you would have no opportunity to contest your indefinite detention.

A. "Conservatives" is a broad category and many of us are wrestling with the conflict between the unwillingness of our enemies to follow ANY civilized behavior and our own desire to remain civilized and yet safe from our enemies.

B. Those who are saying that torture and kidnapping are possible in specific circumstances have given up to despair since there has been no real substitute suggested to provide for safety.

C. There has got to be a better way but calling each other names (in either direction) doesn't seem to be doing us any good.

Please don't tell me that you are going to "talk to the terrorists". They would have to be willing to talk to you. Frankly they just want to kill you so the talks, as well as you, would be short lived.

So, what is the solution? Take the high road and the increased risk that goes along with that? Take the low road and the moral corruption that goes along with that? I have not chosen either as I believe there is a better answer that has not yet been presented. If pushed I would favor the high road and the increased risk, but then we can't point fingers when the next successful terror attack strikes but accept the disaster as the result of our own love of freedom and our unwillingness to bankrupt ourself morally.

They are scared little cowards, who are willing to sacrifice everything America stands for just to feel a little safer.

And then they have the gall to call liberals cowards because we think invading the wrong country is stupid. Wow.

Evil Republican Neocons support anything and everything evil and wrong as their evil and criminal leaders Bush and Cheney do. No wonder most of Neocon Republicans worship Devil himself.
