My boyfriend and I are trying to decide what to buy his father for Christmas. His dad makes good money and doesn't really need anything. His hobby is woodworking and we want to get him something related to that just not sure what. I suggested a wood burning kit but I guess he had one before and didn't like it.

My godfather is into wood working also - last year we got him a large artists sketch pad so he was able to draw out the items he was working on, that had enough room for measurments and notes - he loved it and said it actually helped him out a lot!

For a hobby like that, you really need to do some digging around, talking to people that also woodwork to come up with someone that he will most likely like.

Otherwise, I would stick to the more traditional gifts such as a new wallet, gloves, cashmere or wool socks, bottle of wine, good chocolates like Godiva, etc.

How about taking him out to dinner and giving him a gift card for a woodworking store.

Variety of beef jerky, they sell it at Cabelas and Bass Pro shops. They have kinds like buffalo and ostridge, real cool.

If you want to stick with the woodwork theme here is a neat site: http://www.cafepress.com/woodwork/1241390

Check out some of the custom chisels. They are a little expensive but really nice. Also special bits for his router to do custom edges.

Get him a trip to a favorite location, or take him out to dinner.
Remember gifts are about what they are, not what you give.
