She's NOT beggin for approval, she just wants to know the reality of what it would be like to live in the states.

Yes, you would be accepted, and most likely people would be very kind and interested in you. Don't believe everything you hear about Americans. We are really a pretty welcoming lot. I run into a lot of British people here, and they never complain and tell me anything negative.

She might enjoy living around a university or college so she gets culture shock relief. We have enjoyed moving from the north into the south where people seem to be very tolerant around our university. Being a mixed race educated couple, we run into snags with people almost everywhere. One of our best friends is a black female chemist from Jamaica who has a great attitude and presents herself as a being comfortable with people of any ilk.
We also have black female friends who say that it is hard to go into a rural environment as an educated professional. They are often frustrated that poorer blacks in particular resent their success as if "making it" disqualifies their racial identity.
I don't think, as one fellow put it, that the south is more hostile. Although we were above the Mason/Dixon line for about 16 years and in the south for about 12 now, I think the warmth of the southern people is worth something more to our family.
P.S. This sounds like a great O'connor story. Better call my publisher.

I believe that anyone can survive anywhere if it's the place this person really feels they have to and want to be.
If you were to move to a place without really wanting to be there in your heart then you will never fit in and never survive.
If your'e heart is there hun then i'm absolutely sure you'll get along just fine.

F/UCK that!!! I wouldn't be BEGGING for approval!!!

**Well then sweetheart you have to ask yourself that if other 'blacks' have managed to SURVIVE and I mean SURVIVE since the inception of the America we know today - that is OVERstanding the SHEER HELL they went through - I should think your one self should be able to cope with the 'pressures' of America now**

****So what you're saying Mike R is that certain people should forget about what happened in the past? Yeah tell that to the people who are popularly known as the Jews.****

Of course you can. There's no better place to live in the entire world. Plus, your hard work ethic may be a good influence to some of our lazy "entitlement-oriented" citizens.
