Most North Koreans are banned from communicating with the outside world, part of the regime's authoritarian policies seeking to prevent any challenge to the iron-fisted rule of Kim Jong Il.

Are we closed minded? or just take what we're force fed by the news channels and the talking heads?

BLo and Puma... you're right on the money. it's all about advertising dollars and ratings. Drives me nuts. My view - The media determins for us what it thinks is important and will get ratings, hence, that's what's shown. Gotta search the net for the meat and potato's

People are basically lemmings. They follow who ever is in front and take that blind leap just because. It's too much effort to veer out of the line to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff. Rather than look to the left or right as a society we tend to have tunnel vision and make no effort to look any other way. jmho

I didn't go to the website, but "important" news is featured throughout the day. The reason I know is because since I've been laid up for a year due to an accident, I have only watched the different news channels. I think people think that the "important" news is at 6 p.m. or 9 p.m. because that's the time when most people come home from work, and check to see what's going on. By watching different news stations, it gives you several different views, thus you can form you own ideas.

You have seen how they lead sheep haven't you? Well this has been going on here for 70 years. Ever since the News media decided they didn't want to be the Watchdogs of Government and wanted a piece of controlling the populace themselves. Now people wonder why the country is so screwed up. Politicians that cannot tell the truth if their lives depended on it. News moguls who care nothing for the News only for the money it can generate. Your next door neighbor who is more interested in greed than his fellow men. What goes around comes around and it is going to get worse way long before it gets better. In my opinion.

Most news is pre-recorded from hours earlier. Especially on the major news channels like CNN. But most of the important news is broadcast either in the early morning hours, or before 8am.

I agree with the lemmings comment, but we are this way because we want to be. we the people dictate the media, so we only have ourselves to blame.

what about the monks in Burma being killed and thrown into a river, for holding peaceful demonstrations? (link below)

that "neck of the woods" is very repressed, and my heart truly goes out to them.

EDIT: and what of the genocide Rwanda saw in 94'? little was said on the nightly news about the hundreds of thousands killed. we could of helped to save lives, we could of helped these poor souls, but we didn't. I don't blame the media for these thing though, blaming will offer no resolution.

EDIT: words of wisdom Wally.
my only hope is that the honest and earnest efforts to better this world, will help to slowly reverse our downward spiral. you are right, things are only going to get worse before they get better, so hopefully my efforts will help to shorten that loop.
