I have my carpets cleaned once in the Spring and once in the Fall by professionals. What can one do to clean carpets between those times, mainly the traffic areas? Does that Resolve product really work? I don't have a large area in each of my 4 carpeted rooms upstairs. It is the traffic areas that I would like to treat every few weeks as needed. Does anyone else have an idea other than renting a machine and doing it myself, which I am unable to do. I also have a carpeted stairway. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I might add when you get your carpets professionally cleaned in spring and fall have them scotch guard the carpets. It will help maintain the carpets. Like one answer keep vacuumed often will help traffic areas. Having a good vacuum helps too. Make sure when you do clean carpets like you do in spring and fall make sure your carpets dry well plenty of air stirring if not it is hard on carpet not only mildew but the carpet itself.

There's many great spot-treatment products out there that you can use to get up stains in-between shampooing, and also, vacuum your carpets at least weekly, more so if needed.

The other thing you can do to prolong the life of your carpet? Don't go barefoot on the carpets. We always wear slippers or houseshoes in the house, the oils from your feet will get on the carpet and dirt will stick like a magnet. Wearing socks is not good enough...the oil can seep through the sock.

In my hallway I have put down a long runner, that helps so that the dirt and wear isn't so prevalent on the carpeting.

Resolve works wonders for cleaning up high traffic areas (small spots), but each can is fairly expensive. For the costs of buying can after can of Resolve over the years, you might consider owning your own carpet cleaning machine. I know they are expensive, but if you look in the newspapers under cleaning/supplies you might find one that is fairly cheap and it might be on its last legs, but if your only using it for spot jobs, then it should last. You could also check Pawn Shops and see if they have any carpet cleaning equipment for sale.

Vacuuming your carpet regularly is the single best thing you can do to prolong the life and appearance of your carpets. Some other tips are take off your shoes at the door, clean up any spills as soon as possible.

Resolve does indeed work: I used it a lot while tending to a very sick feline.

Between cleanings and professional cleanings, a vacuum cleaner works well enough. As for the stairs, either your vacuum cleaner should have an attachment that you can use on the steps or you might want to get a hand-held vacuum, with a very long cord.

Good luck!

We have a dog that has a weak bladder. So we took her to the vet and she is now on Propalin which is a steroid for humans but will help the dog with it's bladder problem. diapers will not help same with puppy training pads. If it pees on purpose it's a whole nother story but if it tends to pee in its sleep or dribble unexpectedly you need to go to the vet. For the mold problem... we use kids and pets stain and odor remover. To make sure now mold grows take like a five pound dumbbell weight and put it on top of a rag that's on the pee spot after you use a cleaner. Hope this helped!!!

Resolve really does work, I've been using it for years as advised by my grandma. It's not always perfect, but it's better than anything else I have tried.
