they definitely are - I know I didn't take them seriously. You can't put too much faith in passer rating, because Garrard and the Jags play it safe - they don't stretch the field - they play high percentage, safe ball.
that's not a knock- but it could be a problem for them if they find themselves behind in a playoff game.
but if they are ahead, they have the horses (Taylor and Drew) to keep them there, and their defense is one of the 5 best in the NFL, yet no one talks about them.
The Colts will be a telling sign for me of what this team is made of... if they don't show up this week, I won't take them seriously. (it's not a must win, but they have to show they can play with them)

Jags are definitely someone to worry about, but I still see the Colts taking the division. They are a good team but not a super bowl team. They are a team that upsets others but does not play in the caliber of teams like the Pats and Colts. I think the Steelers should be more worried about the Browns. If the Browns run the table and the Steelers lose to the Jags and Pats, then it will be a tough road for the Steelers in the playoffs. I think the Steelers are better than the Jags anyway, so there shouldn't be any worries. By the way, that's a pretty picture of you.

They could make some noise come playoff time, but I don't think there's any way they could beat both the Colts and Pats come playoff time. The AFC rep for the Super Bowl will be either Indy or New England, as the others - notably the Jags and Steelers - aren't good enough to knock off both of those teams.
I'd also be shocked if the Jags beat the Colts this weekend. Jacksonville has been looking good lately, but if Bob Sanders and Marvin Harrison are both out there playing healthy, then I don't think the Jags will stand a chance.

By whom? They've been around the playoffs for 10 years.
NFL fans, like you and me, and many people answering here... know that the team is 8-3 in League that's been fairly ordinary (aside from the mega-Patriots). Indy is slipping a little (due to injuries). So, now's the time vs. Indy, to get the NFL media kissing their rear-ends (Jags, that is), and sheepishly naming them a Contender like they did with Detroit a few weeks back, if you recall (promoting them, leading up the hype/ratings of hosting Packers on Thanksgiving).
It will be a hyped game, after the NFL gets passed this Thursday night (which is the main event, this week).
Why not the Jags? They have to win, now...
SD's year says a lot, as does the Steelers losing the Jets and beating the 'Fins only 3-0 on national TV. Since we're talking about the AFC there are teams that haven't impressed much, but still can make the playoffs.. like Denver & Buffalo. The Titans aren't a strong team, but there they are... the dominant teams are only the Patriots, Indy and whichever teams step up in December (as usual). The Jags are on the stage, it's certainly set for another part of the country to get amped about their team's chances... we shall see.

It's been the same old story for the Jags the past three years or so. They win a couple of big games then they'll turn around and lose to somebody terrible. Garrard has been an improvement no doubt but they also have their fair share of injuries on the Dline and stopping the run isn't going to be easy and Peterson is hurt. Not to mention Del Rio isn't the best coach either not the worst but not the best. He abandoned the run last time they played the Colts and that didn't seem like a wise move. Why wouldn't you stick to the run game against the Colts when you have two premier RB's and all crappy WR's? The Jags will make the wildcard for sure, I hope they end up playing in New England and whips their asses too.

The Jags are rolling into Sunday's division showdown against Indy with a ton of confidence. "The guys are hungry," QB David Garrard told the Times-Union. "I'm sure everybody can feel this season is different."
I actually like the Jags more than Pitts right now. If the playoffs started today the Jags would play the Chargers. That match up might be one of the best for the Jags seeing how they stop the run so well and tend to ignore the pass. Chargers fall right into a classic trap if they are matched up against the Jags.

wow, a lot of people really thing they have no shot agaist the Colts, and why? the colts are far from being on top of there game... They have such a solid run game that they have a wonderful chance at a deep run into the playoffs and possibly into the superbowl.. there run game allows them to control the clock and the game tempo, and because of that they are capable of winning games that they "shouldn't" win...
But i do believe you are right when you say they are being overlooked, not to much credit given there... but what do you expect with a name like JAG's (Just Another Guy)
I think this is going to be a HUGE weekend for football, we will see how Dallas and Greenbay fair playing top rated teams and be able to project who has a better shot at the superbowl, the Pats are up against, probably, the last team that can beat them and the Colts and Jags are both fighting for that playoff seed.

I don't think the Jags are being overlooked, but they are not even going to win their division. Yes they have a very stout D, and yes Garrard is playing well, but their WR corp is probably the worst in the league, Mike Peterson (leading tackler) is hurt, and they are suspect on special teams with a back up kicker. I feel like they will get into the playoffs but will once again fold like they always do once they get there. Del Rio and Tice have less football IQ than Tomlin has in his pinky finger. I'm looking forward to the December 16th meeting with the Steelers in Heinz field. Its going to be a Black & Gold Beat Down.

sure they are being overlooked as you said ive seen more than a few jags games and ive been telling people for over a month now they were going to deep into the playoffs and it wouldent suprise me if they get to the super bowl they have a stout defense a solid offense that dosent commit many turnovers, a good running game and solid qb play with garrard, even when the backup came in he won 2 out of the 3 games he played i think jacksonville has all the tools to beat the top afc teams, also cleveland should be a little scarey for people as well

Good question. The Jags are tough but unfortunately for them they kinda live in the shadow of the Colts. If they were in most other divisions they'd get more attention. They will be in the playoffs though and will be a team to look out for.
But......they aint gonna pick up a win against the Colts this week, lol. Ok, maybe I'm a lil prejudiced on that one.
Go Colts!
