hardware reset is the easiest option.. you'll need a pin to do it though.. there's a hole you press in while on.. for a number of seconds and it resets..

first thing , change the admin password straight away and make your router WPA encrypted.. it's probably one of your neighbours trying it on..

also get the latest firmware off the netgear site.

then allow only your machines to be trusted. bounce any other MAC codes.. =)

if you go to the support section of the netgear site, more info/downloads / manuals

u didn't say what model, so i can't post a direct link

Once you have recovered your router, delouse each PC (chances are they have all been hacked and now have root kits / back doors / Trojans installed on them ....)

Before connecting your router back onto the internet, DISABLE any 'Allow Admin. from the Internet' option (you should ONLY administer your router from a PC linked via a physical cable connection)...

PS software exists that allows a hacker to change their MAC address to one that your router trusts .. this is really easy if you are running Wireless (since all they have to do is snoop transmitted packets) .. software even exists that allows a hacker to force a legitimate PC off the network in order that the hacker can hijack it's MAC address ..

WEP 'encryption' is a joke and can be broken in seconds - at the very least you should make sure you are using WPA .. and stop 'broadcasting' your existence .. google for 'How to secure a wireless network'

you have 2 options, you could hardware reset it..... using the reset button and then follow the directions that came with it on how to reconfigure it...

second is just to open your browser and put the ip address of your router in the URL bar and hit enter

log onto the router and go to admin and change the password. This assumes you still have access to it.
