That's tough, I'm on Y/A because a sink load of dishes is staring me in the face and I don't want to do it... The best thing to do is to in the hour that you do have tidy up the best that you can... I find that having a daily routine really helps keep the mess down to a min and if by chance you have "surprise" company that your house looks neat/tidy...

I like to wipe down the bathroom every morning with antibacterial wipes... It keeps things smelling fresh clean and there's no cloth/bottle's to worry about... I also wipe all the bathroom surfaces down.. Counter(s), sink, and toilet(s).. I also wipe down the mirror(s)... Then about once a week I collect the towels/rug(s) give em' a wash/replace and Sweep/mop the floor... I also scour the tub/tile surround... This takes about 1/2 hour total time...

Then I move on to the kitchen.. While my children are eating I unload/load the dishwasher and also wipe down the appliances/countertops with antibacterial wipes... Once a week I sweep/mop the floor and every night I give the kitchen a good wipe down with some sort of cleaner.. I also wipe down the highchairs and clean out the fridge day BEFORE garbage day....

Gather up the laundry....Sort and if you have a full-load give it a start... I try to do about a load of laundry a day to keep up with my 2 children/husband/myself....

Livingroom/diningroom... I vacuum EVERYDAY and dust about once a week. I also vacuum my sofa/furniture since I have a dog...I also clean the tv. glass and polish my furniture about once a week....

Bedrooms... I air out the beds and once a week change the linens.. It's very handy to keep the linens for each person's bed under his/her bed in underbed storage containers... Keeps everything where you need and doesn't take up valuable closet space ! I also vacuum once a day and dust once a week....

Family room... Honestly... that's where my kids play.. It's usually a mess ! I will about once a month if I have time go down there and pick up all the toys... I will occassionally mop down there as well.. .Since it's in the basement no one sees the mess....!!

So, I would just tell you that in an hour if you are able to at the very least get the dishes out of the sink... wipe down the bathroom and make the beds at the very least your house looks "presentable" to outsiders... Also, a laundrybasket is your best friend... They are GREAT for quick pick-ups and to stash... in a closet if company is arriving....Good luck

Set a timer & see how much you can get done in the allotted period of time. You'll be surprised at how much you will get done. Always having a lot of pride in my home, keeps me motivated. I keep things picked up daily, especially before I go to bed, then the house is neat & tidy when I wake up in the morning. A place for everything & everything in its place, as my mom always used to tell me as I was growing up. I can't stand clutter, it bugs me. Try to clean certain rooms on one day, & finish the other rooms, the next day if you have a house or big apartment. That way, you can do a better job of cleaning & you won't feel so defeated. I always have music on when cleaning. It's enjoyable to listen to & in no time, I'm done. It helps to get organized before cleaning, then you're on your way. (get cleaning supplies out & plan where you're going to start.

It's hard for me to get motivated also. I usually turn on the 70's music channel on my Dish satellite and get a going! No TV shows.....too many distractions.

If you see the work you tend not to do it, people who see the result just do it knowing with a bit of effort the place will be much nicer.I think it all depends on your attidude

Don't worry about it. I am the same. The housework will always be there.

Enjoy the peace and quiet until children come home from school, if that is the case!

Turn the PC off, turn the TV off and make start. Once you get the first bit done the rest just follows. Its just starting thats the problem xxx

I grab the ipod and blast something and then just go. It helps if I think that my MIL might stop over because no one wants their MIL to see a dirty house.
