It has to do with the voracity of the parents in getting the information covered and it helps if they have money.

I'm sorry it's not only about money, but more so -- race. Remember about 2-3 years ago when both a national story went out that the news finally picked up on, how a white girl was missing/kidnapped and so was a black girl. The black girl's story never made it to national broadcast, while the white girl's did. Both were reported immediately by desperate parents. The controversy was over why it took the media days to pick up the black girl's case.

Unfortunately, as a black person, I all too well understand the role the media plays in our lives. They portray us as ignorant (and trust me, some of us fit the role quite well the way they portray themselves in front of a camera), gangbangers and losers. I could go on and on and on trust me -- think Katrina vs. California wildfires; think media frenzy when Susan Smith said "a black man carjacked my car and took my kids" crying hysterically in front of the cameras, only to find out that SHE drowned them in a river!

I'll stop now. Sorry

Perhaps its the frequency of kidnappings for certain groups. This is only a guess.

There seems to be a higher frequency of kidnappings for girls of that description.

Are you talking about on a national level or just local? I've seen other cases on a local level that don't involve girls of that description. It may just be on the national level that such cases are so prevalent (probably because the families of the missing girls mentioned on that level are wealthier).

Men are a lot harder to kidnap.
Here in the Philadelphia area, you'll see all kinds of different victims on the news....not just the "pretty white girls".

i think of the case has consistently been considered one of racist nature. there became right into a time I visited Lehman college and that i sat down listening to a reporter say that the life of blacks is starting to be much less significant than the life of an animal, to the media. I hate the media customarily, inspite of the shown fact that it isn't what you assert that ameliorations the media. this is all approximately action. many people interior the media ought to love the belief of ignoring a lacking black lady. whilst there is action, there'll consistently be a reaction to the action. via the way, those ideals of equality are pretend. they have in no way even existed interior the U.S. inspite of the shown fact that, some idiots have faith there is equality.

Yes, there are more Caucasian women and children in the media. If you look at the FBI profiling, it's more common among Caucasian men to seek self gratification from those type of criminal acts. Another profile is that there was abuse in the home, and strange relationships and conflicts with their mother. It seems to me that Caucasion children are targeted, whereas women are all different races, age, and mostly prostitutes. The horrific cases make the news! No one wants to make the news caught in that situation.

Laci Peterson was a Latina (born Laci Rocha).

It's not only white girls, but I agree pretty girls have a serious leg up. The news gets to flash their attractive pics heavily in the news cycle.

Answer: The news pushes what they think people want to see. People want to see hotties, not hags.

Is it right? Absolutely not.
