The Dutch, Japanese and Indians all travel 3 x as much and take 2 to 4 times as much vacation time ??????

It's sad to see the other 1st world countries moving forward while we stagnate. Our parents paid the fee of membership in America (taxes) and moved us forward with great sewage systems, great roads, investment in medicine and advances in science.... We however have forgotten America, and now our roads look like we're in Serbia, and our sewages run into our rivers every time there's 3 inches of rainfall! We have let our parents down by allowing big corporations to join in the American dream but not pay their dues, instead hiding their money in the Cayman Islands and such!

25% of Texas high school students do not even know what country is located immediately south of their own state. The President of the US cannot spell Afghanistan or find it on a map that is not labeled; and he did not know there were religious, ethnic, and tribal differences within Iraq until he invaded that nation.

The answer is no and it is hopeless. They think America has the best healthcare system in the world even though it ranks 37th (just above Cuba and below Slovenia).

I've spent a good deal of time in Asia and the south pacific and i can tell you the people there work very hard...they do travel more on vacation but i think that's mostly due to the smaller sizes of their home countries...a trip from Japan to Australia would be roughly the equivalent of a NYC to LA visit

Our standard of living has gone down considerably in just a few years. America wasn't even on the list of ten best places to live! Although it is still my number one choice. I have traveled, but America is my home, and I like it here. Yes, I acknowledge that countries in Scandinavia have most of their policies right on and have socialized medicine. But I think we should work on improving our standard of living here, by improving on quality education and health care. I agree with you for the most part.

I guess I don't fit your "norm". I've traveled to over 30 countries on 5 continents as well as 46 of our 50 states.

I think I can pretty safely say that I know the living condidions of others in the world.

I've lived in Europe. Twice. I know that in Germany and France the taxes are so high, the standard of living is automatically set to "survive".

Hey, I like being able to go to a store after 8 PM if I want. You can't do that in Germany. I also like walking into a bar (that allows smoking) and not have to look through a cloud of smoke all night. That's something else you can't do in Germany.

Sorry, I have traveled to Ireland, Mexico, Canada, Spain and Hawaii. All nice places, with very nice people. Not a bad experience anywhere -- except in Mexico.

I love America, and I'm happy with our standard of living. And, to be honest, I'm not interested in comparing my country with others.

Based on our standard of living.

Maybe for these reasons...

Our country is better BECAUSE we work harder to make it so.

We travel less because it's just so darned nice to be here.

We hear the other countries talk about how spoiled we are.

Agreed. We are more interested in getting the job done and getting ahead than enjoying life.
