-Lottery tickets aren't really a 'present' per-se. More like a fun stocking stuffer. Get the cheap ones that cost $1-$2 or so. Not so bad if you don't lose since you'll have other things in your stocking to use or have. Like silly socks, lotion, candy etc. -Gift cards. Many now come in 'visa card' versions and can be used in any store. But I don't like to use those often for family and close friends. Too impersonal. Any present can be see as awful if it's useless to the person it was bought for. Just depends really. Like a tire repair kit for someone who doesn't own or use the car they have, instead takes the bus or rides their bike. Or earrings for a girl who doesn't have pierced ears etc. *The expensive car with monthly payments is pretty bad though. I wouldn't want that! lol

When I was a kid I feel awful when my Godparents and aunts for giving me a pack of assorted candies. Because that is only a reserve gifts fro those who are not on the list.
When i was in my teens, they always gave me a towel or an advertisement T shirts. I hate it.
Now that i am working my officemates gave me gadgets which i will not be needing or something that will crowd my already crowded table. e.g. a seat for the cellphone or table clock
At home, of course gifts becomes more personal and everybody loves giving each other pirated dvd's of every movie, concert or soap opera you can imagine.

Lottery tickets are OK for acquainteces, the hairdresser, the storekeeper, whatever. Not for friends or family.

The worst example of a christmas gift that I have ever heard of was on the local news station last night. To a question similar to yours, one viewer wrote in that his wife had given him a statue of the Venus de Milo made out of.....wait for it.....dried elephant dung!

He says he gave her a sapphire ring.

Cna anyone top this?

Oh, no I would love a few lottery tickets in my stocking this year!
An awful gift would be underwear two sizes to big.

I personally love lottery tickets but I normally get them from people I don't know very well, and it's a nice gift for a few dollars. I HATE tacky Christmas stuff..... like dancing Santa, tacky ornament's... basically junk. I also hate random crap that doesn't match anything you own- like when people buy yellow pie plates or purple teapots- strange stuff you know they just ran into a marshall's a bought without thinking.

I don't think That there are bad gifts but inappropriate ones. Like buying a friend a fancy sink for there kitchen yeah the thought is there but some purchases should be made by the person themselves and not the gift giver.

My MIL and FIL bought me and my husband a gigantic plastic carousel that played the nutcracker one Christmas. It was the worst gift ever because 1. I hate the nutcracker and had mentioned it to them in the past and 2. The apartment we were living in at the time was positively tiny and that thing was HUGE.

My husband and I took much joy in chucking it in the trash.

I think I have received the worst Christmas gift ever... When I was 13, I started going through puberty. My oldest sister (who was 29 at the time) knew that our mother was against tampons... well, can you guess what she gave me for CHRISTMAS?!?! Yep, Tampons..... I was Horrified!!!!!

I also think I may have received the worst wedding gift also, my husbands sister and her husband gave us stolen pizza hut bread stick pans.

1) linens for the bedroom... they may not even match the decor or the drapes
2)Music...what if they already have that record?
3)dishes... myself, i don't have anyplace the extra stuff I have now or it could imply they don
t do the dishes enough.
4)clothing ... the person could be allergic to the fabric
5)small appliances...as if the counter space isn't cluttered enough

just a few i could think of
