I have 175 best answers and I am top contributor in Psychology and Mental Health. I noticed that 32 of your best answers are in Psychology. Maybe you get top contributor when you have more than 30 in one catagory. I know it isn't by percentage because some top contributors have only 6%. Also you might get it if you are on here every week. I think about the time I was labeled, I got an Official as a fan.

well it does happen especially when your yahoo answers is registered in a country where there are no top contributors, (and of course, you're not aware of it, lol). however, i believe there is a certain amount of questions that you should be able to answer in order to be qualified for being a top contributor, and i can see that you have answered more than 200 questions, and you're best answer percentage is above 15%, well, a friend of mine told me that you should have at least 10% best answers to be a top contributor. nevertheless, this calls for a bigger challenge and responsibility on your part. let's help people here ne?
congratulations and good luck! ^_^

The Yahoo! Answers section maybe able to better answer your question. I have no idea but the folks there seem to have a grip on this site, it just confuses me.

Good question. I have 12% best answers, and almost 6,000 points. ( I only participate here once or twice a month, over the last year and a half). Maybe you are more active for a shorter period of membership?
