Sorry for being not clear enough in my question. The society I mean is socially acceptable, not the court.

I think that ppl can be with whomever they wish, but once the word 'marriage' is used, it causes a problem.

Call it a civil union, even though the word 'marriage' does not mean a lot to most people, there are many who hold it sacred, and that's all I have to say about that.

Why would you be glad if ppl gave more opinions on the agree side? Don't ask for that. You asked a good question. If you can't handle the way some people answer, maybe you shouldn't be asking it in the first place if you can't face all the different responses you'll get.

Gimme a break.

If society doesn't recognize an exploding bomb by choice do you think they'd get blown up anyhow?

"I'm sorry, we don't recognize you nuclear explosion for moral reasons." As if!

Even better: "Oh, it's not a marriage, it's a civil union because marriage is defined in the Bible". Yeah, right. Call a spade a spade and move on.

Yes they should, as it stands already the institution of marriage is not taken very seriously, if it was there wouldnt be such high percentage of divorces. The whole BS about its a sacred bond between a man and a woman is just utter ****, its not sacred, marriage is meant to be a life long commitment...not till you decide you have had enough and want to do something else with your life.

No, why should they be?

Marriage is a convenient between god, a man and woman. Why do you need to get married through the state.

That goes for those who are straight and gay. Why did the state get involved in the first place. Please don't say taxes because that is only a result of their involvement not a cause.

For the debate purposes I would need to know if by society do you mean by the court? or do you mean should it be socially acceptable. And do you mean recognized as foolish, weird and gross or recognized as a norm?

Who cares about "society". That's dumb. The Constitution, constructed by our Great Forefathers, gives us the right to "Equal protection under the Law" and that is the Only thing which should be looked at ! That is one of the Premises this Country was Fought For!
I want My Rights and I've wanted them since I was Six years old!

And, I'm not even gay, I'm Bi-Sexual !

This is such a sensitive question. I have friends who are gay,but I personally hold on to my belief that we were created male and female so as to be a couple and produce offspring. It is not possible for homosexual couples to do that without having another person involved or by some other means of bringing a child into their lives.
Marriage is simply between a man and a woman. They are still a couple but to say they can marry is just not the way God intended it to be, otherwise what would be the point.

I believe that they should because the state doesn't recognize them not but if you get a "union" and buy things together like a house or car. You have to get a divorce by the state. So I think if the state can make you get a divorce then they should recognize the marriage.

I don't see why anyones marriage needs to be recognized by the society...it's nobody else's business but the two people involved with each other unless there are kids involved of course.

Gay marriage is great for society... and should be celebrated... a married couple will be more likely to buy a house, improve it, adopt pets or children, bring two families together, pay taxes, support local businesses... things that couples do... and all of which improve our society... single closeted self hating people who are made to feel bad about themselves are more likely to be promiscuous ( which can spread disease ), live alone... keep to themselves... which doesn't do anything for themselves or for society...

There is no reason that they should not be and several reasons that they should. A good reason is that with the HIPPA laws, a partner is not considered family and thus is not allowed to visit in the hospital during family hours.

Edit:
Historically the one man-one woman view of marriage is not the most predominate, nor is there any reason to believe that it is "intended".
