A weld is as good as the person doing the welding, regardless of the material being welded. The material is what it is.

The problem isn't the weld, it's having a solid engine mount. The majority of engine mounts have a rubber component that's designed to absorb vibrations and keep the engine in its proper place. If your engine is welded in place, it'll take damage from every bump in the road, and send vibrations through the entire vehicle. Essentially, it would be like trying to walk without being able to bend one of your knees.

To answer your question simply, no...it is not safe, but not for the reason you think.

your mechanic should have replaced the mount and if he welded it on the car then depending on how bad and where the mount was broken he probably did not do a good job of welding it.............

If done properly an aluminum weld will hold up.
