Debate: Would amnesty toward current illegal immigrants have a net adverse economic effect on the United State

Amnesty will spell bad for the citizens who will have stiff competition with the illegals to get work opportunities.

The Center for Immigration Studies crunched the numbers, after the first ten years, back in 1997.

They found a total deficit of 78.7 Billion Dollars!

They predicted a long term continuing deficit. That was with only 3 Million getting amnesty.

The Census Bureau, only 14 years after the amnesty, estimated that there were over 8 Million illegal aliens in the US. So the amnesty caused an increase in illegal immigration on top of creating an economic deficit.

this was done during the Reagan years when about 8 million were given amnesty

there was a short recession soon after but the the largest economic expansion we have ever had during the 90's so not so sure it really hurt anything

remember the numbers though sounding huge (12 million) are actually pretty dinky in the scope of a country with a population of over 300 million

and either way they are already here and working or doing whatever it is they are going to do, not like they havent already taken youre job if thats what they are here for

so the damage is done already, a little late to send them packing now, anyways the president wouldnt want them to leave, its the only way we can keep social security solvent (is to keep the illegals here working) and supress wages so we can compete with China

Yes, with amnesty the current illegal aliens here would each be allowed to bring in their family members. You can pretty much figure each illegal will bring in 100 of his closest family members and they would be given amnesty, too. That will add about another 200 million. Imagine that! If you are living in California, Arizona, or New Mexico, you might want to make plans today to get out of there. LaRaza is going to take it over and the U.S. government is their ally.
