White southern society responded violently. Ruthless discrimination and subjugation of minorities did not end with the Emancipation Proclamation, the end of the War, nor the 14th Amendment.

For over a hundred years after the Civil War, the Ku Klux Klan and "legally" passed John Crow laws attempted to perpetuate the former slave system in the South. To this day there exists ghettos of impoverished blacks across the United States.

I can't exactly delineate their reactions, but you can see the results quite clearly today.

The SE USA is one of the most integrated parts of the nation. There are no real areas in which particular races are and others aren't, at least not in the average city.

I've been told all about the "Chinatowns" and "Harlems" of other regions of the nation, but I've never seen that around here, or even heard of it.
