Generally, I'd like a story to surprise me.
But I usually go for storyline that ends happy ever after, or everyone dies at the end. The Andromeda Strain by Michael Chricton is good. It could end either way.

..million and one book Q? =)
I stand by my claim. I have an eclectic reading taste. I can go downright funny as Bob Ong, inspirational as Tuesdays with Morrie, romantic as Sheldon & Steele, very Pinoy as Tagalog novels, full of suspense and mystery as Jeffrey Archer, kiddies as Harry Potter, brain bleeding as Ayn Rand, ..and so on and so on..
..but for the love of me. I don't enjoy autobiographies and sci-fi novels..
