That all depends on the owner, doesn't it.

I've seen too many negelcted and/or abused dogs in my life time - a dog's life could be good if more people treated animals with respect.

Hi,
Usually when someone says it's a dogs life,
They would mean it in a way of saying that It's a hard life,
It's an ole saying. As in today's society were in a better position to look after our pets. I was with some friends during the summer(The Whole 8 days of it) and one of them turned around saying while looking at the two Labradors sitting there in the garden looking like two lords, Getting fed first after being brought back from there daily swim and getting all the love they want, He points over to the dogs saying it's a dogs life lol. So it's really down to the tone of the person who's said it. Hope this is of some help

Every time I've heard that, it gives me the impression that it's meant to be sad...so I'd say that when you mean it's a bad thing, we could think of stray dogs who have to forage for food and fight for territory and that...but when it's a good thing, we could think of the domesticated dogs, sitting at home, being fed and having a cosy place to sleep....Does anybody see what I mean?

It's good! We should all have it so lucky! Dogs are relaxed and laid back, someone feeds them and plays with them and nothing bothers them... life is good if you are a dog!

Both...dogs get kicked around sometimes. they get their noses pushed in crap. they have to eat dog food. they get called..."you stupid dog!" or "you dirty dog" or "you ugly..no good, low down, rotten dog!" and things like that. they have to wait for someone to bathe them or feed them or they are just smelly, matted and have to eat out of the trash! as a matter of fact...why bother talk about the other side of it? ok...on the flip...the "lucky dogs" get fed good, they can lay around the house happily getting their bellies rubbed and their fur scratched...Hmmm... I still go with part I...
