Obviously your well read by you vocabulary. In Plato's Republic the argument of love was presented to the reader as a cradle to grave issue. We philosophize that there are more than one kind of love. Eros seems to dominate us in our desires to attract a mate but phila keeps us together till death due us part. I personally feel people today place to much emphasis on the outward appearance of their relationship being a model of conformity to represent the health of their said relationship. Although I believe benevolence is impossible, I strive to love and understand the nature of the thing I love. It is vastly easier to hate from a distance than to love up close. My work will never be done. However, I feel I am the better me for the little extra work I do to try to love all I know on some understandable level I have justified to myself.

Because they are two entirely different feelings and sensations. Unrequited love means that you love someone in a sexual, partnership way and it is not returned. You can not chose who you love in that way and you can not just wish away those feelings. It would be fooling yourself to pretend they did not exist as they are. Regardless of if that person is your friend and you love them as such, you are always going to have that feeling deep inside of being IN LOVE with them, versus just loving them. And then platonic love is completely different. You can have platonic love for many people in your life. It means you love and accept all the parts of them, with absolutely no sexual or partnership feelings. It means they never existed or they have been proven unrealistic (you tried a relationship and it failed and now you only love them as a person, nothing more). The two come from completely different emotional processes.

According to the dictionary, platonic love is a love that is not based on romance.
Unrequited love is love that is not returned. Usually, unrequited love is based on romance.
The difference, to me, is that two people can have a platonic love, but only one has requited love.
There is nothing wrong with loving somebody unselfishly, but if it is unrequited, it is emotionally painful.

To give people hope. There is woman out there that I love very much, but she doesn't feel the same way. Just knowing that I can feel that love gives me hope that in the future I might find somebody that is even better than her.

I'm not sure I understand the question but I really liked a guy when I was younger. We were great friends and I thought he was the best and wished he'd ask me out. Later I found out he was gay. It explained alot! But for me, he is still a great guy and I have fond memories of him. And still think back on how I used to have this major crush on him!
