You need to give more details in order for people to give intelligent answers. I'll try to give a variety of interpretations:
Should people have pets? Personal decision, but in general I would say yes, pets are beneficial to people, if the people have the right temperment, will love and care for the animals properly, and can afford their upkeep, including vet expenses.
If we have pets and we are invited out, should we take the pets with us, or leave them at home? PLEASE leave them at home. I do not need your pets under foot as I try to entertain; nor are your pets the center of my world, or my other guest's world. Some of my other guests may have allergies or phobias.
Should we leave pets at home when we are out shopping. YES!!! Pets do not belong in stores (many stores do not allow animals, other than those working animals that assist the handicapped), and pets should never be left in a car while you attend to your chores. They could urinate and deficate in the car, they could chew up the upholstery, and that is the LEAST of what could happen - they could die from heat in the summer or freeze in the winter, or someone could break into your car and steal your pet.
Should we leave pets at home when we go on trips? Personal preference - you can take them with, if possible, board them at a vet or a reputable boarding establishment, or have a pet sitter come in and care for them in your home. NEVER leave dogs home alone for more than 8-10 hours - they need to be walked so they can relieve themselves. NEVER leave any animal home alone for more than 24 hours - they all need fresh water, food, litter and/or bedding and companionship. And they need someone who knows the individual breed of animal to check and make sure they are not sick, and have not injured themselves.
I think that is all the various ways to interpret your question.

Do you mean keep them at home when you go away? I think keeping them at home is better, as long as you can find a responsible person to take care of them while you're gone. For some pets, traveling can be very stressful for them, it's best if they can be kept in an environment they're used to. And I also think they should be kept at home when people do their shopping. I am so sick of seeing dogs locked in cars at malls and grocery stores. I don't care how hot or cold it is, I'm pretty sure the dog would much rather be home than locked in a tiny car.

Of course we should!
Animals are great for companianship. If your sad or lonely, your pet is always there to cheer you up. If your bored, there's your pet to amuse you. If you just want to love something the pet is there and s/he will love you right back.

They wouldn't be pets if we didn't keep them at home, now would they? They would be wild animals.
