Well first off, you shouldn't feel a thing. But to make sure, tell the Dr you want to be given some happy drugs, or Morphine. I broke, my tib, my fib, and shattered my ankle five years ago. I was given Morphine up until the surgery and I don't remember any pain at all. I was awake during the surgery but they gave me a spinal tap. NO, they shouldn't be doing that for you. I was given the spinal tap as I have a bad heart so the Dr's do not want to put me to sleep. But once they set your ankle, they will either give you a hard cast, or a removable one. BOTH are good, and there are advantages to the removable one. Your doctor should talk with you before he does anything to get your input. Good luck.

Depending on how significant the break is, it shouldn't be too bad. i broke it plus torn the tendons. I had to have surgery to fix that (pins, wires and anchors). After about 4 weeks, I had to have a new cast put on and it wasn't that bad at all. Just takes some getting used to and it may ache for awhile, but not like screaming pain or anything.

It doesn't hurt, but you may experience discomfort from keeping your arm enclosed for a long period.
