I'm not a speed demon, or a dare devil by any means. I push speed when it's appropriate and safe...if there is such a thing. Anyway, I'd driven 130 in a 79 Firebird when I was 17, but this next story was wicked.

I couldn't sleep one night after purchasing my Honda CBR 1000RR while I was on Mid-Tour leave from Iraq. I hopped on it at 2am in Fort Hood Tx and rolled out 30 min west till i hit HWY281 (beautifull road). Went south on a recon of the road, checking for debris and dead animals. Found the perfect stretch, turned around, pulled over and called my girl (2am, lol). She's like, "where are you, what are you doing?" I told her, "I'm just going for a cruise while there is'nt any traffic, I'll be home in a min. I just wanted to say I love you." She was like, "Whatever, just get home, it's late, I love you too." pulled down the helmet and checked for lights, picked up a trot, then just...blasted. Every gear ended in a milisecond, it felt like. I had my platoon leaders GPS stick from work taped onto my fuel pod to track the speed, as the speedomoter is usless and inaqurate after about 110. It showed the route and ticks of speed, pretty sweet. Anyway, I noticed the soft curve in the road was extreemly more exadurated at my speed, so i let off early with more power still remaining. As I applied the breaks, I could'nt feel the friction/grip, and i feared locking up the back tire. So I plumed my knees outward like a parachute and droped in speed signifigantly, to the point where i could feel the breaks. It was the most intence feeling I've ever experienced. More so than fire fights in combat...well, different. Pulled over in Lampasas for a gatorade, and when i played with the GPS stick, it said 173...madness

An F-4 Phamtom fighter jet at a speed above that which is publically published.

An automobile at 217 mph.

A Harley motorcycle at 100, for a very short distance.

And, a fishing boat at 60 knots, yes, a fishing boat.

The F-4 was the most fun, except when some jerks were shooting at me, but that was back in 1969.
