Generally. If the other person holds up their end, I can hold up mine. If it becomes an interruption fest, or else I get the impression the other person just does not care, I fall silent, usually with resentment.
What I really hate, which is not really conversation at all, is when someone is going on and on about something I'm not interested in, and they don't stop long enough for me to turn the talk to some other topic. Or even to add my own opinion on the topic they raise. After awhile I will fall silent, usually with resentment.
But with a person who is reasonably articulate and knowledgeable, I can find a thousand interesting things to talk about. That, to me, is real conversation, and one of the great pleasures in life.

Yes, but to what extent depends compleatly on the other person.....
I can talk to hours with someone if they are interesting enough and are a willing participant to engage in an interesting and interlectual conversation....
On the other hand I met this guy the other day who's first topic of the conversation was how he used to punch up nerdy guys in school for there lunch money because they were too smart and geeky..... I put the lid on that one quicker than you can say "sad".....

As it takes two to tango, so it takes two to talk.
If the one talking with you is not able to follow, no matter your skill, the conversation will end as disaster....
I can carry well when the other person can carry well too....

yes I sure can... but the person must be interesting.... just today I was talking to a guest and all he could talk about was how much money he made... totally irritating... but I really had nothing to say to him he just seemed like he was trying to show that he was better than some others.... and i hate people like that.... I would rather be broke than have money and act like a jerk

It depends on how heavy the conversation and how far it's got to go. LOL. Just joking. It depends on the subject and whether I am knowledgeable about it or not.

Yes, and I have a knack for making the other person feel very comfortable, right away, probably b/c I always like everybody until they give me a REAL reason not to.
