I have been told that i might be eligible for government funding for doing up a house im buying.
It needs complete modernising... including central heating, double glazing etc.
I was just wondering if there was any websites, and how it works? Who is elgible etc.

Thanks

Ask who-ever told you for further details or do your own research .. in addition to central Government, most Councils have some sort of scheme ..

There used to be grants towards insulation etc and I believe there are some grants available in some areas of the country aimed at making the property habitable (fixing leaking roofs, installing an in-door toilet, hot water etc) or bringing older property 'up to standard' (which might include central heating) .. not sure about 'modernising' ..

Often there will be arbitrary restrictions (for example, the property must be built before eg. 1910 or located in some specific (post code) area) .. also you will be lucky to get 50% of the costs & it can take months (if not years) to get agreement.

Any funding is likely to come with strings - typically you will have to live in the house (and not sell or rent it out) for XX years (5 is not uncommon) or pay back some / all of the grant.

(Croydon council (link below) only seems to apply to council houses)
