When I try to approach her about it she immediately tries to turn the tables on me by saying I have a gambling problem. This may be true, but that is a completely different issue! What do I do!?

First of all my deepest sympathy and empathy!! I went through life with a father that has a drinking problem. Secondly unless she is willing to admit to you she has a problem, stop wasting your time because no matter what you do, she will fight you and go right back. Get her to admit the problerm then half the battle has been won. Get help - professional for you both.

Your gambling might not seem to be the same but addiction is addictioj - regardless of what yoyu might think

You are both on the Highway to Hell, and I shall meet you no doubt at the "Penniless P Head" Hotel en route to our destination.
She is killing herself, slowly and surely, maybe without intention, but she will probably get worse.
You are killing your future, both together, and also as an individual.
Any addiction is a problem, and denial just builds upon itself.
"I drink because you gamble"
"I gamble because you drink"
"I've stopped drinking"
"I bet you haven't"
"I won... Cheers"
"I bet you won't have another one"
"Too right... I'll have 3 or 4"
"I bet you just can't stick to one"
"Oh... I didn't tell you did I?"
"Tell me what?"
"What are the odds of us splitting up?"
"50/50 or phone a friend?"
You BOTH need help.

It's a very difficult problem you got,
try to explain to her the problem, she has to see the problem by herself, the consequence.
Your gambling problem is another issue, but it's similar, you must make effort too, to show the good way to her...
Easy to say, but difficult to do, so if all your try dont work, try with her friends, mother, etc.... and if the problem still here. dont hesitate to get help by a doctor.
I hope my advices will help you.
Good Luck

You acknowledge you have a problem with gambling so you MUST QUIT! Try gamblers anonymous. While you get treatment for your addiction you will learn how to help her with hers. Go from there. Good luck.

They are both weaknesses that often have similar beginnings. Tell her that you are going to seek help for your problem if you are ready to, so long as she seeks help for hers. But if you do truly have a gambling problem you should seek help... At the very least it will show her you are committed to self improvement.
