afflicted is the term used if your moon is not in harmony on some of your planets, lets say..
you have a Capricorn Moon and an Aries Mars(the degrees/angle of the planets matter too if they are or they arent), this obviously means your moon is afflicted by mars.
Capricorn and Aries are both cardinals and theyre in different elements, while your impulsive mars act a bit childish and impulsive, your ever capricorn moon would put a stop to that.
so basically if your moon is afflicted it cant completely be itself in some ways. sometimes you may even be troubled.

"Afflicted" should not become confused with "harmony". It's not about being born under a bad sign. A moon that is said to be afflicted is merely indicating an aspect the moon is making with one or more planets in the horoscope. These aspects are neither good nor bad, because it is the tension and stress between planets that give life it's movement, it's direction, it's confrontations, it's self-overcoming qualities. So when the moon in your chart is said to be SQUARE or OPPOSITION with another, or if it's exalted, elevated or in fall, all of these characterizations give meaning to an interpretation. Don't mistake squares, oppositions, conjunctions, retrogrades and other things as bad aspects, afflictions or otherwise. They might indicate areas in life (or concerns of life) highlighted by greater demands being placed on your attention.

Since you don't have e-mail, I just wanted to thank you for your great answer.
When I was young, I had my chart done and I had so many afflictions, squares, conjunctions, oppositions, etc. - it seemed all my chart was just problems, tensions, etc.
I don't know why but after all these years, your answer was very comforting.
I suppose we must look at everything as challenges rather than obstacles.
I am a Scorpio with Virgo rising and Moon in Libra. But of course, it's the Scorpio part that always intrigued me.
