My girlfriend and I have the same boss but we work at different companies of his. The other day my girlfriend got a call from the boss asking her if I have a drug problem. I experimented a little when I was younger but thats it. He says he found a razor blade after I left work with cocaine residue on it. Now my boss is a known drug user. He told everyone I work with that I use drugs and steal from him. One of my co-workers even came up to me and said watch out he heard the boss was trying to get me. Now my co-workers look at me funny and I know they are talking behind my back. Is this slander? And what should I do, I was thinking about calling a lawyer.

I think firstly you need to find people that your boss has spoken to directly and who would be willing to give evidence. Then I would seek legal advice. If you are stealing from him maybe he should call the Police - if the accusatio has been made I would insist on the Police being called - its a crime and it needs to be investigated.

Yes, it looks like slander. But it would be hard to prove. Further, showing monetary damages would be difficult.

If you file suit against the owner, you will surely get fired. Talk to a lawyer.

yes, if it's not true then it is slander...go to work and carry a mini tape recorder with you at all times...the hardest part would be getting evidence in your favor since everything so far is simply word of mouth. It would be easier to prove to your boss' superiors that he's abusing drugs.

You would have to be able to prove he did so and that you suffered a material loss (loss of employment or ability to promote, poor reference to potential employers because of this accusation) because of it. You have to be able to prove both elements to make your case. If you plan to press on then you definitely need a lawyer. Getting one to take your case might be difficult.

Yes, it is slander and you should call a lawyer. Make sure you have proof (gf and coworkers to testify).

Call a lawyer.
Then go for a drug test. This way, when he accuses you publicly, in court, you will have evidence to prove him a lier.
