Holly,
I no longer have glasses, I just needed them when I was younger for a lazy eye. However the doctor informed me that the easiest way to get used to them was to wear them as much as I could (if my eyes started to hurt take them off) and that the best thing to do was to exercise the eye by doing near sighted and far sighted exercises.
Basically I would work on a computer for an hour (close up) and then a couple of time that hour I would pick a spot (far away) to focus on and allow my eyes to adjust.
This worked the best for me and it's information that I have passed on several times.

Just put them on in the morning when you get up and wear them all day and take them off when you go to bed. With in a couple weeks to maybe a months time you will become used to wearing glasses full time. I have worn glasses for over 30 years and going through the embarrassment and uneasy feelings during the first couple of weeks of being seen wearing glasses for the first time and wearing them all day long was well worth it and today I really don't even realize I'm wearing them most of the time and I feel naked when I don't have them on and actually now I feel uncomfortable when people see me without glasses.

My own experience is that you should wear them all the time if they're "all the time" glasses. Taking them off and on will not help your eyes get adjusted. The most important thing here is that you're able to see all the time. I've been wearing glasses for about 20 years and got used to them right away the very first time I got them ... well, it a couple of days at least.

Firstly, be sure that the frame fits comfortably. If you do not feel comfortable (especially visually) wearing your medicated glasses, then don't even wear them, hoping that you'd eventually get used to them. Just like wearing sunglasses, you can only get used the wearing med. glasses with regular use if you have visual comfort. Also, It's practically impossible to wear them all day. Truth is, after a few weeks of normal use, depending on if it meets the above criteria, wearing it should become as easy as riding a bike; you'd do it unconsciously and love it. Good luck.

When my sister got her glasses she was so excited that she could see, she couldn't take them off and fell asleep with them on LOL.
My tip is: If you feel you need a break from reading, look out the window into the distance for about a minute, that helps the eye muscles to relax.

If you really need them, you should wear contacts. They are more comfortable and look MUCH better than glasses, plus, they do not reduce your field of vision like glasses do.

You may find your vision so improved that you will want to wear them all the time. Wear them as much as you can and you will adjust quicker.

You should wear them all the time if that is what you need them for. Your eye dr should tell you.
