Waterstones is Britain's largest national chain of bookshops; their shops are well stocked and staff generally helpful
Another national chain W.H. Smith tends to concentrate on best selling books only. Many towns still have smaller individual bookshops offering more personal service but their prices might be higher than chain stores such as Waterstones.

Borders, Waterstones and W H Smiths are the best. I won't buy books on line as they take away jobs from shop employees and sooner or later we end up without anywhere to look at books before we buy them.
