my brothers girlfriend is trying to sell me a compaq 5300us 5000 series, i heard its old, and judging from the info i got off the tower its not too fast at all...can info on how old it is and stuff will be greatly appreciated!!

Yes it's approximately 10 yrs old and slow
Most new graphics cards wont work with it either
you will not be able to run many newer games either
But if it is all you can afford well then try getting it for as cheap as possible.

You could likely run XP on this computer but you would likely have some driver compatibility problems.

Specs below (===========) for a typical Compaq 5300us desktop/tower

This would be very slow on internet sites which are designed with high resolution graphics - lot of time outs.

If you are paying more than $25.00 US forget it. I consider $25.00 US too high.

There are many refurbished computers with 2 GB processors and above for $200 and up - depending on hardware and software that comes with them.

Many have sales this time of the year on complete computer packages - it may be worth your while to look into these before purchasing used - new systems usually come with a 1 year warranty, legal software that you can update, etc.

try the computer model at ebay and u ill know the present price

unless it's all you can afford, I wouldn't buy it. There's nothing more aggrevating than a slow computer.


as far as age, cut it in half and count the rings ;)
